Privacy Policy
In plain English: the diagnostic is anonymous. If you create a free account, we store exactly two kinds of things: your email (no password — we send a sign-in code instead) and your results. You can delete your account yourself, in the app, at any time, and everything goes with it. No advertising, no third-party trackers, no payments, and we never sell data. Who we are
Syltis is an independent project providing a free cognitive diagnostic for IB Mathematics ("the Service") at syltis-mvp.pages.dev. For anything in this policy, contact syltis.privacy@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account data (only if you register): your email address — nothing else identifies you. There is no password: signing in works by a one-time code emailed to you. Your account stores your diagnostic results, drill history and mastery-ladder positions so they follow you across devices, plus a daily drill counter and, if you share your referral link, an anonymous record of which accounts joined through it.
- Anonymous usage data: a random session ID generated in your browser (not linked to your name or email), your quiz answers and per-question timing, "I'm not sure" and "not covered yet" flags, which screens you reached, how you arrived at the site (referrer and campaign tags), a truncated browser type, and anonymous error reports if something breaks. This is our calibration data — it tells us which questions work and which misconceptions are common.
- IP address (transient): used solely to rate-limit our AI endpoint against abuse and deleted within roughly 24 hours. Our hosting providers (Cloudflare, Supabase) process IPs in transit like any website host.
Deleting your account
Settings → "Delete my account" removes your email, saved results, ladder positions, daily counters and referral records permanently and immediately — no email required, no questions asked. Anonymous calibration data (which was never linked to your account) is unaffected because it cannot identify you.
Browser storage
We use your browser's localStorage to remember your quiz progress, the anonymous session ID, and how you first arrived. There are no advertising cookies, no third-party analytics, and no cross-site tracking of any kind. Clearing your browser data removes all of it.
AI processing
In live mode, your quiz answers and target grade are sent through our server to Anthropic (a US-based AI provider) to generate the narrative in your report. This never includes your email, name, or any account identifier. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, API data is not used to train their models. Transfers are safeguarded under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
Where your data lives
Waitlist and usage data are stored with Supabase in the European Union (Ireland). The site itself is served by Cloudflare's global network.
Why we're allowed to process it
- Contract — an account: storing your email and results is what makes the account work.
- Consent — the waitlist (legacy) and referral sharing: you act, we record it.
- Legitimate interests — anonymous product analytics and abuse prevention, designed so they cannot identify you.
How long we keep it
- Account data: until you delete the account (self-service, instant).
- Waitlist emails: until early-access communication concludes, or immediately on request.
- Anonymous usage data: up to 24 months.
- Rate-limiting IPs: about 24 hours.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export your data, or object to processing — the fastest route for deletion is the in-app button; for everything else email syltis.privacy@gmail.com and we'll act on it. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. Note that the anonymous usage data cannot be traced back to you, so requests can only apply to account or waitlist data.
Age
The diagnostic itself is anonymous and open to anyone. To create an account (or join the waitlist) you should be 16 or older, or have a parent or guardian's permission.
Emails we send
Sign-in codes when you request them, and occasional product updates about Syltis itself. Every non-essential email includes a way to unsubscribe. No spam, no third-party offers, and we run no payments of any kind.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged to waitlist members by email.
